when one's soooooooo desperate... something bluetooth~

ya... it's nothing to shout about, but just a short note for myself, for keepsake... ^_^

the other day, I brought along my super old netbook, ie. HP NB1000, which I've dumped in a chromixium,

to a trip...

well, all these while, while using this netbook, I was using a wireless dongle, and for this time round, I didn't bring along that dongle...

therefore, I was not able to get online, AT ALL~~~~~~~ (dooms day!)

so, I was so so so desperate, and as I am a typer internet user, (ie. I don't quite consume, just consume, I do type of lot of junks, somehow...) therefore, I really do need a keyboard...

the place that I'm in, there're a few "get online" option, ie. a few AP for me too access to, it's just that, this netbook that I'm having, with the OS that I've given to it, didn't have the necessary driver...

but yes, I was so so so so so desperate,

so, I told myself, well... I'll just use my samsung tab4 to get online, I guess, I don't have much choice...

but then, let me try, if I can use this netbook, to serve as a bluetooth keyboard for my tab4,

so... I enabled whatever I could enable, and hook the 2 up...

then... I saw something, on the netbook(chromixium), where, the wifi icon down there, COULD "see" the tab4,

so, I tried to connect to it, there's no "error" message popping up, or something...

I then, explored more on the tab4 side, which obviously, I've not explored enough prior to this day...

then, only I found something called, "bluetooth tethering",

oh... if... if it'll just behave like wifi tethering...

hm... let me try...

I was pretty pleased!!! when I found that, it actually worked! it's amazing how technology is these days...

so, for a while, my super old netbook, was online, via the tab4's bluetooth tethering,

ie. whichever AP my tab4 is connecting to, the netbook will be connected to...

THAT,

then, I downloaded the necessary driver, and eventually, the netbook's online on its own... haha!

Finale : seriously… the finale for that very old HP Omnibook 6000

If you've heard from me before… ya… that I'm struggling with AN OS for that super old HP Omnibook 6000 notebook, which my friend's passed to me… (for what? Long story, and don't bother, not important to know at all!)

So, that's the thing…

Window's out of the question,

So, I tried kinda all sorts of linux, kinda…

Of the ubuntu family, only 9.10 works well, and works well with that super old "laoya" wireless network card, ie. netgear something something… nevermind…

Then, I was not too happy with this ubuntu too, I mean, on this notebook, ie. slow…

So, after I've finally purchased another new decent notebook for myself, during the HP sales, ie. online offering… a compaq presario CQ42-459...

… I then, will have a decently fine working notebook right? Yes, I'm happy with my life, and I've an ubuntu 10.10 on it… (eagerly waiting for 11.04)

But then, for some "itchy hands" reason, and I just want to know if really really really that's the end of life for that super old HP omnibook 6000…

I went on to search for more suitable linux distro…

Yes, I've tried the followings:

Linuxmint,

Debian,

Fedora,

openSUSE,

Lubuntu,

Xubuntu,

…

Some of it couldn't even install… for eg. Linuxmint,

Some of it couldn't even load… for eg. Lubuntu/xubuntu, can't remmeber…

Some of it, load funnily, that, I just don't know how to tackle…

Some of it take a looooooooooooooooooooooong time to read the liveCD,

Some of it, managed to install, by leaving the network card behind… and thought of solving it after the OS is installed and loaded, but then, I just couldn't have a clue on finding the network configuration thing…

At the end of the day…

I finally willing to try this err… childishly-sound linux distro, ie. puppylinux…

Ooh… it doesn't even need an installation, and immediately it detected the wireless card… ie. detect my wireless AP…

Installatin's like a breeze…

But then… WHEN… I needed to create that GRUB thing… arggh… many time I tried, many time,

Upon reboot… it gives me this, "grub rescue>",

I typed set something something… not working,

Help? Not working,

Only "ls" worked… however, I can't proceed,

I tried all the suggestion I found online, doesn't work…

So, long story cut short,

At the end of the day, (again!)

I tried again, and this time, I don't use GRUB anymore,

Instead, I tried GRUB4DOS…

Ooh…

Now, there you go…

 

Amazing piece of linux… (it's independent of any of the linux derivations…)

I know what that word means, and I know how it's normally used… wa hahahahahahaha…

Nah…

I was just thinking, the other day, how much "rubbish" I've gathered all these years…

I know I know…

And a lot of my friends also know that, I do have MANY THINGS, to a shocking manner…

Anyway, I'm not going to go into details…

See my stuff from my childhood time, a lot!!

Then, I went for a-level, 2 years in KL, a lot!!

(my definition of "a lot" is, for some reason, at the end of the "course", my belonging's always double/triple my peers'!!!)

Then, I went to UK, 3 years, a lot!! (people have 2 boxes to ship back, I've 4)

Then, we started work in KL… moved zillion time… (ok, maybe 5-6 times, from mini to major  moves)

2 major moves, which I considered major, as in, it's from own house --> own house, ie. bigger…

And since it's "own house", we tend to buy quite a bit of stuff, cos, it's "own house", ie. we deco, we addon and on and on…

That already makes me a "junkie"…

Then, I looked at my digital collection,

Gosh!! Also damn a lot fo them, and therefore, again, friends who know me know that, I have many external HDD, from powered HDD to portable USB HDD… kekekeke… again, I'm not going to share into details, how many of them I own…

The point is,

I'm a junkie, afterall…

You know??

Those people who keep trash… ^_^

Ok ok… maybe to you, it's trashable, but to me, it's never…

From time to time, I'll somehow find a way to use it…

Even though it can be in the cold storage for >5 years, for eg. That day, I just pulled out my spill-proof, flexi keyboard, after baby spoilt my other one…

See!!!

Those items are still useful ok!!!~~~~~

AT THE END OF THE DAY… I'm actually using Opera most!

Haha… sad, but true…

Firefox, the css/html problem with multiply.com is unsolved, as the reason's unknown, probably due to the firefox engine…

Google chrome, till the day they figure out how to backup the extension and how not to delete all the extension setting when you clear all your browsing data, I'll not really use it for "serious" purpose… ^_^,

And all the above problem, does not appear in Opera,

Except that, opera does not have "power twitter" kinda thing, however, that can be solved with seesmic…

(what does power twitter do? At least they give me the preview of tweetpic, if anybody tweet any pictures ^_^)…

The only small irritating "behaviour" of Opera is that,

If it's loading some heavy website, or doing something, you just don't know that it's doing something…

It's as similar as certain people, when there's something going on in their mind, they do not show it, be it happy or sad, they do not show it… even if you "poke" them, they still rarely show it…

I hate it in a way, cos, you have to continuously WAIT!! For something to happen, ie. if you're facing this type of people, you just have to wait, endlessly… (cos, you don't know how long you need to wait) for them to tell you, what's in their mind,

Same thing goes with Opera browser…

It doesn't show you that hour-glass thing that it's loading, or, it's "hanged", or anything…

It just doesn't show anything… but I guess… comparing to the above 2 big problem, this one I can just live with it…
