ubuntu + celcom(huawei) mobile modem...

my otaku brother shared with me this link, http://www.review-ninja.com/2009/05/huawei-e160-and-ubuntu-e160-linux-howto.html on how to configure my ubuntu so that the OS will be able to recognise the device(dongle) as a modem, rather than usb storage...
after a quick browse of that website, let me tell you, my eyes are like@_@ and my head's full of !#%%$^$^$&$#^%#$^^%$!!@@@@##$%%^
and that's what I told him in the end... I said, “luckily the house's an inhouse wireless AP, I don't think I'll have to bother to setup this mobile modem thingy”, (ya, I was traveling)...

arriving the destination, I happily grab the WEP passcode... (funny thing is, it's not 10 digit?? but 13??? what encryption is that?? anyhow...)
and just now, I was really busy trying to access to that AP... the ubuntu wireless detection at first, didn't detect anything at all... NOT AT ALL... must be something wrong...
ooh... maybe... so, in the middle of the night, real 三更半夜, I sneaked downstairs, ON the wireless modem router... che!!! see... usually technical errors are just a switch, or, a loose wire... kekekekeke!!!

happily came up to our cozy little room, fully air-conded... baby happily sleeping soundly, due to the dose... ya, we dosed baby to sleep... kekeke... ok ok... she's having this big cold, even before the start of CNY, (I was expecting her to be slightly sick, AFTER, not before!!!) and that we've to dose her with all the cold medicine...

back to my effort of getting myself online...
ok... after all the quiet effort, up and down, I'm still not able to be connected to the AP, though I know, the AP's on, and happily “serving” the house...
the encryption key's just “weird”, cos, my own one, back at our condo, it's just 10 digits, this one 13?? is the next encryption level, 13????? (and with an alphabet??)

I finally decided to give up, cos, I tried this and that, it just doesn't get connected...
therefore, I unplugged that huawei modem from his laptop... and use it... ok... but I'm unable to get online to refer to that lengthy “documentation”?? how???
simply out of desperation,
this is what I did... went to the “wireless” thing “up there”, near the top right corner, right-click to “edit connections”,

click on “add”,
follow the steps, mostly is clicking “forward” button... (cos, at first, the “device” is not listed yet)
pick your country – malaysia
choose the service provider – my case, celcom,
choose the plan – since I've no idea what it'll be, I just “forward”, ie. Left it “default”...
and somehow... my modem's light stop blinking, and the “wireless” connection's established... just like that...
hehe... I was seriously thrilled... cos, I'm online just with these few clicks, and I do not have to drill and grill my own head to figure out that lengthy steps, full of commands, commands, and commands...
cos... see... since my schlumberger time, I've long left the “command” world... (we're on Sun Sparc UNIX)
and now, “command” lines just seem to be, a bit hostile to me.. ye.., hostile...
I felt intimidated when facing them... ^_^,
but then, if that's the case, why I want to go ubuntu???
well, well... though feeling “intimidated”, but it doesn't mean I wish to feel intimidated forever right???
there's always a chance/option to “patch” back!! ^_^
