green mom green kid – a better tomorrow?

the other day, I had a weird dream…
I dream that, the end of the world is coming, that, the earth is going to tilt…
tilt as in, N-S pole’s tilt to where the existing equator is…

however, as I’ve mentioned a couple of time, now, my dream will always have baby…
maybe… maybe if I were to dream of such dream before I’ve baby, I won’t feel a thing, but now, even if I dream of my favourite “going for a trip” type of dream, it’ll be worrying…
as I’ll always have, “how’s baby going to cope?” type of worry… (I guess, that’s the price to pay, for being a mother)

while, a few weeks before, I came across this article,

I ran through the list,
to a certain level of consolation, I’m actually quite a ‘green’ mother…
well, I’m never a great person, and I’m never a person with great topic to talk about, or, to lecture others…
how others live, frankly, is not my problem, and I’ll never tell you that, my style is THE style…
I only like to gossip, or talk about tiny-mini bits of daily life with friends, who don’t talk about serious stuff… ^_^ it’s more relaxing that way…
come on!! you don’t want to end up in a conversation everytime you meet up with your friends, talking about life, talking about future, talking about things that you can’t really own, or things that you can’t really do, and you realize that’s the truth, and you start to get depressed, right??

[oh! let me detour a bit again… I just finished watching this jdorama, “BOSS”, and one of the episode is talking about a serial killer who believe in those type of killer/play-God type of personality, and the “BOSS” said, 2 types of people have this potential to become such type of killer, first type, is teenagers, who still have not lived in the reality world yet, second type, is middle-age people, who’ve lived the reality, and have realized that, their future is already ‘finalized’, and there’ll be no more changes, hm… interesting]

ya… off the list…
I did not purposely want to be green, as I said…
I don’t turn off my electrical items in my household, I like to put them on standby… (that’s bad)
and I don’t categorize my trash…
only 10% of my shopping time, I’ll ask for ‘no plastic bags’
but luckily, parenting make me a better earthian!
though… as I’ve mentioned, I didn’t start it on purpose… it’s only ‘thinking of the goodness’ for my baby… and it slowly lead to this result…
I inherited most of the stuff from my dear friend meiling for baby, her crib, her walker, some shirts, even old pairs of shoes, really, I’ll say 75% of those big/expensive items that you’ll need to welcome your firstborn…
we rarely buy toys for her, all her toys are given as gift when she’s born… (and I still don’t really believe in toys)
I chose to breastfeed, simply because I want to, and secondly, it save money – not because of all the ‘good’ things listed in all websites, or, it’s green…
I eventually switch to cloth diaper, simply because I want her to feel more comfortable… and not because of any other great reasons…
but eventually… I guess, it turns out as overall good result…
and, as for baby-friendly product… simply because it’s baby-friendly, but most baby-friendly product, happened to be environmental friendly…
for eg. Bud’s baby product – bought her baby bath shampoo, cream, massage oil, etc. cos, I thought I want to give her massage sometimes… and babies like to put their hands and feet in their mouth, so, you can’t simply give them other products than organic, cos, most of the other things are full of petroleum by-products…
and we visited the local organic shop again, Just Life, cos, we thought we want to get this baby rice cereal for her… ^_^

and now…
I think of my dream again…
IF, if tomorrow really is the end of the world due to global warming,
am I going to regret as I’ve not lived green enough???
and my baby’s going to suffer?
well…
I may not say “I definitely will, and I’ll start living green now”
but I will certainly hesitate, and have doubt…
and the doubt is good enough, to give you or me, the answer…

Evolution! - a tale of domestic horror

i bet you can't guess what this will be about from the title...
and let me tell you, never in my life, i could imagine this could happen to us...

it started like this,
we bought a huge bag of cambodian brown rice from cold storage, ikano...
it's HUGE and it's the most expensive brown rice of all...
RM30 per 5KG, and i thought this was good offering, that's why we grabbed it..

1 fine night, i saw this '1 grain of rice' sticking at the edge of our sink...
i wanted to just use my finger to take it away in fact...
luckily, i didn't i take a close look, it's in fact wiggling a little bit, and at one end of the 'rice', it's a little black dot...
taking a closer look, gosh!! it's this little maggot (ok, i don't know what to call, just call it maggot, basically it's this little worm that you normally will find on the vege's leaves or some thing like that...)
ok, nevermind, it's just a little maggot, so, i took it away with a piece of tissue...

after 2-3 meals, i think... (and i hope not too many round of meals then)
i cooked porridge one day...
half way eating, he asked me, how come there's this little maggot in the porridge...
well, i thought it's from the spinach that i cooked, and i felt so sorry that, i didn't wash properly, so, we're poking into the bowl of spinach, and another plate of green vege that we had, and try to find more maggots... but i couldn't find any...
then, he picked more of them, from his bowl of porridge... and i looked into my own bowl, nope... no maggot...
so, i strongly believe it's from the vege, but he said, he didn't take much vege, yet, he's so many dead maggots in his bowl...

after having more 'findings', i started to feel a little bit suspicious, went to take a look a the pot of porridge...
goodness gracious!! immediately after openinning the cover, i can see A FEW dead maggots inside the porridge, ya... after being cooked for so long inside the slow cooker, of course dead!!!
immediately we stopped eating...
even though it's hard for me to think that, rice... from a vacuumed pack, will have live maggots, i still opened the kitchen cabinet and doublechecked!!
and again, goodness gracious, so many of them inside the rice, some are happily climbing out of the container... luckily they don't move very fast...

gosh gosh gosh!!
i thought brown rice's the best and it's kinda... won't harness any bugs that easily... as oppose to white polished rice!! but this one, it's the masterpiece, not just those normal black bug, but a lot of wiggling maggot...
gosh gosh gosh!!!
so, without thinking twice, and we don't bother about saving money, or wasting money, it's just give me this goosebump when thinking of it...
we took the whole bag or rice, throw it away...

that's the end of the story???
no... more horrible things coming up...

then, starting 2 nights ago, i noticed, there're 1-2 little moth (very tiny thin moth) flying around in our house, and i thought they came from outside...
normally with this type of little moths, it's not too bad... the next day, they'll normally go away, when outside's bright...
however... when next day arrive, and while i was preparing our dinner in the kitchen, there're just 1-2 little moths keep flying around me... it's so irritating, as it doesn't fly further... well, normally moth flies towards the light, but these moths were just a little bit weird, they don't fly towards the light...
they just keep flying around me... and i'm scared that they'll go disturb my baby...
simply irritating...

so, when he came home at night, i told him about it, told him that, there're some moths came from outside, very irritating, and he managed to kill 1 of them...
at night, i managed to spot another 2, i got rid of them too, and i thought that's the end of the story...

next day, ie. today... i got up, went to our supposed-baby room, saw another 1 on the wall, got rid of it...
then, when i started to prepare our dinner, again, 1-2 of them keep coming to me, flying around me...
goodness.. and in my mind, i started to feel something cliche...
i went to open the kitchen cabinet beneath our wash sink (where we put our tub of rice earlier, now the tub of rice is placed outside, after we washed the container, on the day we got rid of the maggoty rice)
and GOSH GOSH GOSH!! (i really wanted to bang my own head towards the wall already!!)
immediately i saw a couple of them flying in the dark in there..
and immediately i close the doors...
i gotta contained them, before they come out and invade our whole house...
and immediately i sent him an sms told him about this bad news...
(ie. some of the maggots got out of the rice - well, another thing, the container is not air-tight, hid somewhere, and have evolved to a moth)
i didn't want to imagine, if they've already nested somewhere, or have already laid more eggs!!... i'll faint man!

when he got home at night, i told him the full details of this horrible evolution...
no wonder, they don't fly away
no wonder, there're more than just 2 of them...
and i was showing him 4 of the resting moths on the ceiling
luckily his brain works faster than mine (obviously isn't it?)
he said, use vacuum cleaner, i told him, i've tried (well, i was using the electrolux ergo rapido cordless vacuum)
and he said, use the REAL vacuum!!
ooh... i see, ya, right... the REAL vacuum has long hose, can be pointed at the ceiling...
after he finished the few on the ceiling, he checked the kitchen cabinets 1 by 1...
as they're kinda connected, so, i was telling him, i hope they've not invaded the whole of the bottom part of our cabinet...

right now...
i think there's 1 more left... it managed to runaway during our vacuum session..
tomorrow i'm going to find it... and 'take good care' of it...

AND!!!
I'LL NEVER BUY ANY CAMBODIAN BROWN RICE!!

Love Blossoms

I've been watching Mediacorp's LOVE BLOSSOM (I & II) lately...
on Astro AEC, 8pm weeknights...

well... part I is more cheerful, and part II, due to the frequent apperance of certain irritating character (for eg. Lu Gua, and Zi Pen) it's showing a little bit of straining emotion among characters in this show...
and also, finally the way Kai Wang live his life... timebomb exploded (last night's episode, I think it's 28)

anyway...
as the closest asian chinese life to m'sian chinese will be s'poren, maybe that's the reason I watch this show...
as it portrays lots of social/family problem, that can be very similar to what m'sian maybe experiencing...

1 event just happened lately, to Kai Wang and Qing Xiong (KW's brother-in-law)...
which keeps telling me... and the rest of the audience (I suppose)
first, do not blame others for your misfortune (not really misfortune, but chinese's saying is, "not given a good chance")
second, do not be greedy, especially those big earning opportunities...
ultimately, ie. telling you, do not be greedy!!! there's no free lunch in this world... period!

Kai Wang - a good person indeed, always like to help friends (but help too much that he ignores his own family's interest), and trust anybody easily...
his wife Zi Jing scolded him this, which is very true, I think... (to some people out there, of course, I'm not referring to anybody ^_^)
she scolded him, that, he only knows how to blame the others when things happened, for eg. his business no good, he didn't manage to bid a stall in the market to re-start his business, etc. he blames others for his misfortune, by not realizing his own problem...
his wife, Zi Jing, after getting over her gambling addiction problem did not want to go back to him, he blames her for falling in love with another man, and blame that man (the one who gave his wife a second chance) for snatching his wife away...
but as Zi Jing keep telling him, their problem is not external, it's within the 2 of them...
ie. the way Kai Wang lives his life... he's his own florist business (those that sell flower in the market, doing auntie's business) and he does not have saving, in Love Blossoms I, their problem is, he keeps asking Zi Jing to have a second child, but Zi Jing refused to, as he does not provide her with financial security... I was a bit irritated when I watch part I, when Zi Jing keeps saying money money money... but then, in part II, I am kinda siding Zi Jing more, as what she's saying is right...
he doesn't have stable income, doesn't have savings, and whenever friends need help, he just lend them as much as he has, leaving the flower stall aside... leaving the wife taking care of the stall herself...
and when their only daughter Fei Fei grows older, need computer, need to attend dance class, etc. he doesn't have THAT BIT of EXTRA $$$ to provide to them...
ya, if I'm Zi Jing, probably I'll die, vomitting blood, having this type of 'childish' husband!!!
and that's why, Zi Jing refused to have a second child...

anyway, regarding Qing Xiong...
ya, have a short affair with some don't-know-who woman, cheated all his money, a.k.a investment for gemstone mining in somewhere...
and that's what I call GREED...

as we all know, even at present, in m'sia, we can still hear news where there're people who got cheated
(oh, let me sidetrack a little bit, as I was watching the "police news" - a local short film telling day-to-day crimes, there're actually people who believe by paying certain amount of money to somebody, and somebody can give them some NUMBERS so that they can strike lottery!! ya, "like that also can ah??", yes, I tell you, LIKE THAT ALSO CAN, else why would the police talks about it in TV shows... but I just find it unbelieveable, why would there be people who'll believe that, they can have money in such manner!!.. the only way to have money, is to earn it yourself, with hardwork!!)

as of yesterday's episode, Qing Xiong runaway, cos, he actually cheated his clients' money (those cupid centre, bring "wives" from vietnam for s'porean men) after being persuaded and conned by that don't-know-who woman... and he handed that mone to this woman, this woman runaway with the money with the man behind all this scam!!!
come on, if anybody come and tell me that giving tham a few thousands, can have handsome return, I won't give.. what more to say, if I've already have my own business which is quite established!!
why would I??

ps: after these straining relationships in the show, the part that I like to watch most, is the Peter Pan's family and Wen Hao... at least, that side is more cheerful...
ps: even the relationship between Hai Tong & Machi's... this storyline is putting me on my nerves... just too draggy a little bit, in Part I, actually I don't mind Hai Tong, but in Part II, she gets on my nerves!!
